How to Have a Baby and Not Lose Your Shit

A darkly comic monologue about the challenges of pregnancy and first time motherhood

The consultant has a bald head and a deep calming voice. He tells me I need to chill out, recommends acupuncture.

I very nearly acu-punch him in the face. I don’t want a spa day, I want a baby.

He doesn’t ask me if I’m banging anyone behind Pete’s back.

Alice is drowning under misguided medical advice, chirpy Insta-announcements and yet another fucking miscarriage. Stressed out and angry, Alice knows she’s not a good person. But does that mean she can’t be a good mum?

Introducing Michelle Luther as Alice, a woman struggling to navigate the absolute batshittery that is first time motherhood.

How To Have A Baby And Not Lose Your Shit is a cathartic play about the messy, fucked up journey that is pregnancy and baby loss written by award winning parenting blogger Kirsty Smith (@eehbahmum) based on her Amazon Motherhood Top 5 Best selling book of the same name.

Directed by star of stage and screen Lucy Speed.

REVIEWS

"How To Have a Baby deals in an honest ,often funny and powerful way with an experience that so many people share but is rarely spoken about publicly" Mark Ravenhill

"A production that bends from hilarity to harrowing to back again in the blink of an eye. Brilliant" Tracey Wilkinson, Actor and Director

"I didn’t know what to expect, but I wasn’t expecting THAT. Masterful writing, performance and direction for HTHABANLYS - I want nothing more than to see it succeed. It’s funny, heartbreaking and important" Simon Bailey, West End Star

"I don’t think I’ve ever laughed or cried so hard in a play. All I can say is that the whole thing was electric"  Carla F, Mum of two

"Still thinking about this INCREDIBLE play and the electrifying power of the performance this deserves to be everywhere"  Tracey C
