This Frankenstein-inspired nonverbal odyssey with a live original score is guaranteed to leave you in stitches. The good kind. Join the monster as it is thrust into existence, trying its best to discover why.
Loosely inspired by Mary Shelley’s classic gothic novel, TO BE FRANK blends high-energy physical theatre, slapstick and clowning with an original punk-inspired live score performed on electric guitar. We follow the journey of ‘Frank’ as he learns to manoeuvre his monstrous body, create a life of his own and discover what it means to be alive.

Created in New Zealand in 2022 by actor, Michael Hockey (Bull Rush, The Perfect Image) this show has performed to critical acclaim across the globe. Joined by multi-instrumentalist Alanna Hall (Rivyrs, Rosa and the Lambs) TO BE FRANK is hot off its sold-out run with Pleasance Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe. It was named one of “The 12 stand-out shows of the Edinburgh Fringe 2026” by Rolling Stone UK and was awarded the “Horror Awards Critics Choice” from The Spookies.

This is a raucously fun, delightfully thrilling and incredibly human solo show with themes of loneliness, love and how to cope with the emotional intensity of life. TO BE FRANK is a journey of epic proportions – but here, the ‘monstrosity' finally gets to tell its own story.
