The Old School Yard: Actors Instinct Studio

When one person’s nostalgia is another’s trauma, don’t ask them to compare notes.

Was it really so great back then?

This is the question seven old friends find themselves asking at their 10-year sixth-form reunion. Because it wasn’t all just a bit of sex, drugs and fun. Not for those who had the lines of consent, abuse and homophobia blurred and possibly crossed by people they trusted. But when everyone was in on it, who’s the one at fault?

Written by Ben Stower, The Old School Yard is a poignant, provocative and at times uncomfortable exploration into memory and our enduring yet fallible perceptions of our formative years. Taking place in 2017 and 2007, it questions the people we thought we were and the moments that defined us as teenagers. Because the memories we hold closest might actually be the ones we would rather forget.

The Old School Yard is produced by Actor’s Instinct Studio, directed by Sean Turner (credits inc. Play That Goes Wrong, West End; No Villain, Trafalgar Studios, and Seal Boy, Riverside Studios) and stars some of London’s best new acting talent from the studio.

Actor’s Instinct Studio, founded by Richard Winsor, delivers training that harnesses truthful moment to moment acting and develops new writing from up and coming artists. The brilliant students on show are all graduates of the studio and are now members of the Actor’s Instinct Company.
