King's Head Theatre Trustees

Robert Khan (Chair)

Robert Khan graduated in law from the Universities of Cambridge and Southampton and was called to the Bar in 1995. Since then, he has worked variously in Parliament, policy, law and politics, including as executive director of external affairs for the Law Society of England and Wales and director of public affairs for the GMC. From 2010 until 2018 he was an Islington councillor where he served as chair of the planning committee and as the Borough’s first Arts Champion. He has served on a variety of other boards and is a playwright writing (with Tom Salinsky) numerous plays which have variously been presented in London, Edinburgh and Brighton, including Coalition, Kingmaker, Impossible and Brexit.

Aaron Porter

Aaron Porter leads a national governor and trustee development programme which engages with over 850 trustees and governors across the UK on an annual basis. He has extensive experience leading board effectiveness reviews of over 50 trustee and governing boards. Aaron has served on the governing council of the University of Leicester and has previously been a Non-Executive Director on the Board of a range of agencies and charities including the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) and President and Chair of Trustees for the National Union of Students (NUS). Outside of education, he served as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Endsleigh Insurance, on a statutory committee of the General Chiropractic Council and on an advisory panel to the government established pension scheme the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST).

Aaron is currently a school governor, non-executive chair of BPP university, chair of the board of a college in East London and on the Council of Goldsmiths University of London. Outside of work, Aaron is a qualified football referee, goes regularly to the theatre, watches cricket and has a season ticket at Crystal Palace.  

Matthew Hedges

Matthew is the Director for Asia and Americas at the Westminster Foundation for Democracy. Prior to this, Matthew was a British diplomat and his most recent posting was as the UK’s Ambassador to Paraguay. He has also worked in Myanmar, India, Japan, Morocco, Iraq, Turks and Caicos Islands, and at the UK Mission to the UN in New York. Matthew is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Leadership Fellow at St George’s House, Windsor. He has a master’s degree in public policy and international relations from Princeton University.

Molly Waiting

Molly Waiting  is part of the Corporate and Commercial team at Bates Wells Braithwaite. Molly advises a wide range of businesses and social enterprises on commercial issues including brand management, data protection, marketing, fundraising and intellectual property rights. Molly also has strong experience advising on consumer protection law in relation to social enterprises, commercial companies and the financial services industry.

Richard Williamson

Richard trained at LAMDA in Stage Management in Technical Theatre and works both nationally and internationally as a Lighting designer - regularly working at the Kings Head Theatre since 2002. In addition to his Lighting Design work Richard is the Head of Production for C venues at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, was the Technical Manager for the Greenwich & Dockland’s International Festival from 2007 until 2013, works as a freelance Production Manager for the Philharmonia Orchestra’s international digital exhibitions department - Rite Digital - and is currently the Lead Theatre Consultant and Project Manager for a new performance space in London’s West End.

Helen Williamson

Kate Mullan

Kate is Director of Operations at the Marlowe Theatre and an avid theatre goer. Kate has worked in a number of theatre operational roles through her career, as well as experience managing a variety of events from corporate conferences to weddings. She is thrilled to be a part of the Kings Head Board at this exciting time as we move into the new venue. 

Rutger Beelaerts 

Rutger Beelaerts has joined the board of the King’s Head Theatre in 2024. He is also a member of the
board of Theatre Uncut and the board of the Fiery Dragons Fund II. Previously he served on the Board
of the Alley Theatre in Houston, TX, USA from 2016 till 2023. He has been an enthusiastic supporter of
the Alley All New Festival for several years. As a frequent visitor of theatres across the world, he is keen
to stimulate the development of new work. In our polarizing world, theatre can play an important role
to understand different perspectives and build bridges between communities.

Rutger worked for Shell in Europe, Singapore, and the U.S.A. for almost 30 years. In Houston, he was
General Manager Intermediates and General Manager Strategy of Shell Chemicals. After leaving Shell at
the end of 2019, he moved back to London. He consults clients in the Renewables and Chemical
companies on strategy, commercial structuring and negotiations, sustainability, and plastic waste.

James Quaife

James is currently the Executive Producer and General Manager for New Frame Productions.

Workshops & readings include: Selfish by Maddie Rice, Scandalgate by David Gollins, Soul of The Ballad by Chris Poon and Daniel York Loh and Wild Card by Martin Milnes. 

As an independent Producer and General Manager, productions include: the Pulitzer Prize Winning Drama; Sweat (Gielgud Theatre; Winner of the Evening Standard Award for Best Play 2019 and Olivier Nominated for Best New Play), Good People starring Imelda Stanton (Noël Coward Theatre), the world premiere of Barking in Essex starring Lee Evans, Sheila Hancock and Keeley Hawes (Wyndham’s Theatre; Evening Standard and WhatsOnStage Award nominations for Best New Comedy), GHBoy (Charing Cross Theatre) Next Fall starring Charlie Condou (Southwark Playhouse), Step 9 (of 12) starring Blake Harrison and Precious Little Talent (Trafalgar Studios).
