A dream comes true…

After many years of planning, we’re finally ready to move into our purpose-built, fully accessible new theatre.

Our new home is immediately behind our current pub theatre, where the final curtain will fall on Sun 13 Aug after 53 years of being London’s oldest pub theatre. Work has begun fitting out our multi-storey venue which includes a 200 seat theatre, 50 seat cabaret venue, purpose-built bars, meeting spaces and offices.

'I would just love the King’s Head to go on forever' - Sarah Miles

We have hosted nearly every household name in British Theatre over the last half-century, from Victoria Wood to Tom Stoppard, Steven Berkoff to Alan Rickman. Founding director Dan Crawford led the company giving a home to the brightest, best and bravest writers, directors and actors in the country.  Throughout the 80s and 90s, King's Head Theatre regularly transferred ground-breaking shows to the West End and beyond, and under Adam Spreadbury-Maher’s tenure as Artistic Director it developed a following as "London’s little opera house", winning an Olivier Award for La bohème and seeing multiple shows transfer to the West End, New York and on international tours.

'It ought to be regarded as not only a treasure for the city but a national treasure' - Mel Smith

We’ll be announcing more details of the new theatre in the coming months, including the shows which will be in our inaugural season. Before then, we’re looking back at the last 53 years of history to look forward to producing amazing new shows for our new stage.

To do this, we are launching a new dedicated Angels of Angel Fund which will ensure we are able to get back to producing the new, ambitious and high-quality productions you’ve come to expect from us - supporting the next generation of theatre mavericks to add to our star-studded list of alumni. The fund will be used to produce new work, underwrite commissions, residencies and productions.

There are TWO ways you can contribute:

53 years of London’s oldest pub theatre, 53 stairs in our new home, 53 renowned productions at the pub theatre. Sponsor your favourite production from the last 53 years, and it will be embedded into the fabric of the new staircase for the next 53 months.

We’re launching a new Theatre Angel’s network, a community of like-minded theatre mavericks, supporters and aficionados who all want to be part of future productions at King's Head Theatre.

The fund will be used specifically to capitalise our new shows, and you’ll join a network with great perks including backstage access and the opportunity to influence our programme.
