A Statement from our Executive Director

2 April 2021

We are delighted to announce that we have received £155,985 in the second round of the Culture Recovery Fund.

We’d like to thank the DCMS and Arts Council England for their continued support. But most of all, we’d like to thank you, our wonderful audiences, for your ever-present kindness and loyalty.

We have taken incredible strides forward in the last six months. We didn’t let you go a year without our legendary Christmas pantomime and for the first time ever, we took it online with Charles Court Opera’s Snow White in the Seven Months of Lockdown which was seen by over 1,500 people. With the support of Islington Council, we were also able to provide a number of opportunities for our local community to watch for free.

When lockdown continued into the new year, we lived up to the ‘Distanced. Not Disconnected’ promise we made back in March 2020. Over 100 skills sessions and more than 78,000 views later, the #KHTOnline community continues to grow, and reach more and more people.

And earlier this month, we announced our first digital season, Plays On Film; bringing together five smash-hit shows from some of the UK’s most exciting theatre makers, available on our new on-demand platform, KHTV from the 15 April. Thanks to your support and the UK Government’s Culture Recovery Fund, we’re able to guarantee that over 50% of ticket sales will go directly to the artists and companies involved.

Despite the difficulties we and the entire entertainment industry have faced this past year, we have stayed true to our fundamental values: to support emerging artists and to pay a fair wage on the fringe.

We continue to progress and plan for our bright future: the more immediate and beyond in our sustainable, purpose-built new home in Islington Square
